Ok so playlists and earbuds are our bread and water, our sandwiches and rice bowls, I know.. and yet..

Vinyl though. From the way we recorded, to the sequence and art choices .. this is the format this new record was made for .. since that winter when I was gobsmacked by dropping the needle on some early Baden Powell recordings, in awe of the lush sound of intimate music in a big room and the soft analog patina, I knew I wanted to release the next record on vinyl.. this is how it was meant to sound.

So, here it is ..limited edition gatefold packaging, on a surprise mix of remelted multi-colored vinyl remnants !

Although he was born by the sea, it wasn’t until he moved to the desert that Nels Andrews began writing songs. He sang them alone in a house constructed of mud and tires on the sage-brushed mesas of Taos, New Mexico where he spent his 20’s, airing them occasionally around campfires. Eventually he found his voice as a crooner of literary narratives and increasingly impressionistic story songs.

Now, happily stationed by the sea again in Santa Cruz, Andrews has gracefully woven the morning fog, redwoods, and oceanside into his forthcoming record Pigeon and The Crow, produced by traditional Irish flutist Nuala Kennedy (Gerry O’Conner, Will Oldham). A songwriter’s record in the spirit of Van Morrison’s Veedon Fleece with a breath of the texture, rhythm, and longing of Milton Nascimento’s Club De Esquina , Pigeon and The Crow brims with literary wordplay, mixed with some sway, some shimmer, and some sand between your toes.

All of JCA’s albums are true gems with so much honesty and heartfelt emotion. He is a lyricist who puts all his cards on the table in his songs. There is such a tender delicate atmosphere he creates with his instrumentation it begs the listener to really listen to the words in the songs. Honestly there are not many I could put above him In music. I love all the songs so real so good but my favorite is Typeface In Bold. What’s even better JCA is a genuinely nice guy too.
